The climate in Madrid is Mediterranean but the winters are cool because of the city’s high altitude, so temperatures can fall below freezing.
In the summer however, the temperatures are generally 30 degrees and above, though rarely going beyond 40.

Travellers enter Madrid via Barajas Airport, which is also the main airport for the Iberian airlines and is the main Spanish gateway from the rest of the world. Barejas Airport is among the twenty busiest airports in the world.
Spain has a good public transport system and the Metro in Madrid is one of the fastest growing rail networks of its kind in the world.

Madrid is an historic city and the area experienced considerable growth during the Middle Ages when it became the capital of the then Spanish Empire. During the industrial revolution of the nineteenth century the city also became a hotspot for tradesmen and artisans.
In present times Madrid is a major centre for international business and home to one of Europe’s largest financial sector.

Madrid’s climate means that there is plenty of greenery and parkland in and around the city. As one of the more popular Spanish tourist destinations Madrid is well known for its considerable number of cultural attractions.
For art lovers there are galleries and museums aplenty including the famous Prado Museum and the Golden Triangle of Art holding some of Europe’s most memorable pieces.
Visitors to the Reina Sofia Museum will be pleased to see the large display of Picasso’s work that New York has returned to Spain after holding it for more than twenty years.

Spain is a Catholic country and it will come as no surprise to lovers of architecture that there are a large number of Catholic churches in Madrid.
The oldest surviving church that is well worth a visit is the San Nicolas de los Servitas that dates back to the twelfth century; the oldest part of the church is its Mudejar style bell tower.
If Baroque Architecture is your thing then don’t miss the St. Michael’s Basilica nor the Collegiate Church of San Isidro and everyone should see the neoclassical San Francisco el Grande Basilica.

There is plenty to see in and around Madrid as the city has more than its fair share of visiting alternative entertainers and entertainment groups.
Madrid is home to Las Veritas, considered to be the centre of world bullfighting, if that is your thing.
Madrid offers some great shopping with plenty of designer boutiques in the city.
For younger visitors Madrid offers a vibrant night life with plenty of bars and clubs and the Chueca district is a night life hotspot, particularly for Madrid’s gay inhabitants. You can dance the night away or find a quiet restaurant and bar where you can sit and drink and chat to your heart’s content.
